COACHING MATTERS

In competitive youth soccer, the coach is the architect. They transform raw talent and burning ambition into a cohesive unit, one that can dominate on the field. More than just teaching fancy footwork and strategic plays, qualified soccer coaches push young athletes to their limits, building resilience, leadership, and an unwavering work ethic – qualities that propel them not just in the sport, but in life. Our USSF qualified and certified coaches provide guidance for players to succeed not only in soccer, but also in whatever future career they pursue by following our club values.

ARE COACHES USSF QUALIFIED?

All of our coaches are USSF licensed and USSF qualified.  Volunteer coaches are the heart and soul of competitive youth soccer. They bring a passion for the game that transcends getting paid. Their dedication allows leagues and clubs to offer competitive programs at accessible prices, making the beautiful game available to a wider range of young players. These coaches aren’t just there for the wins – they mentor, inspire, and celebrate the growth of each player. Their time and expertise has become a gift that shapes not only soccer skills, but also the confidence and work ethic that young athletes carry with them far beyond the final whistle.

ARE COACHES PAID?

We believe competitive youth soccer thrives on a dynamic partnership between paid and volunteer coaches. Paid coaches, with extensive experience and advanced certifications, bring a strategic vision and technical expertise to the team.   They provide one-on-one support, coach mentorship, and foster a positive team environment. Together, this combined force creates a well-rounded program that pushes players to excel while fostering a love for the game. Their complementary strengths ensure a holistic approach to player development, making the club able to deliver on our strategic goals.

For those parents who wish to invest in additional coaching for their players, we will be offering additional paid coaching opportunities that can be provided as individual coaching or in small groups. Such plans can be purchased via the club, with more details coming soon.

CONTINUING COACH EDUCATION

In the fast-paced world of competitive youth soccer, staying ahead of the curve is crucial. That’s where continuing coach education comes in. It’s not just about ticking a box to renew a certification. Our programs offer our coaches access to the latest training methods, tactical advancements, and insights into player development. By constantly learning and refining their skills, our USSF qualified coaches can adapt their approach to get the best out of their players, both individually and as a team. This ongoing education ensures they remain effective mentors, able to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of competitive soccer and empower young athletes to reach their full potential.  Mt Diablo Soccer Mustang retain a Director of Coach Education.

WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL COACH?

The term is commonly used in competitive youth soccer, and in some instances a professional coach is suitable.  However, we believe there is an important difference between a paid coach and a professional coach.

A professional coach is defined as someone who is “a person engaged in a specified activity, especially a sport or branch of the performing arts, as a main paid occupation rather than as a hobby”.

Many times parents will expect a professional coach but will be receiving a paid coach with the same licensing qualifications and time investment as a volunteer coach.

Referees in club soccer are paid, but are not professional.
